Shmuel Tepler, painter, born 1918, Poland. Worked as teacher. 1975 Accepted as member of Italian Academy. Lived in Tel Aviv. Died 1998.

Tepler turned to painting when he was a child, Studied high art studies in Lithuania and Italy
During the Second World War he also served as a giant portrait painter of Stalin who was placed in public places throughout the Soviet Union

In 1949 he immigrated to Israel and settled in Ashkelon. He then moved to Tel Aviv and then to Jaffa, where he bought a house by the sea together with the painter Moshe Rosenthalis

Tepler’s paintings often depict the landscape of the port in Jaffa and its life. At first, he painted in a figurative style, but moved to an abstract style, using a uniform and wide color, while maintaining a quiet and non-contrasting color scale. This style became highly identified with Tepler

Tepler has exhibited extensively in exhibitions in Israel and abroad and is considered one of the leading artists in Israeli art
