Malvina Kaplan (nee Kaminer) was born in Lodz, Poland. In 1937, she began studying at the Warsaw Academy of Art but was forced to leave in 1939 when the war broke out. In 1940, she married Moshe Kaplan. They were sent to the Czestochowa ghetto but escaped before it was liquidated. Under assumed Polish identities, they moved to Germany, working in agricultural and factory work. In 1944, Malvina’s Jewish identity was discovered and she was deported to Auschwitz, Ravensbruck and Malchow. In the spring of 1945, she was saved by a rescue operation organized by Count Bernadotte and taken to Sweden, where she was reunited with her husband. In 1947, the couple immigrated to the Land of Israel and Malvina enrolled in the Avni Art Institute in Tel Aviv

Kaplan works in oils, watercolor and mixed media. She spends her summers at her studio in the artists’ quarter in Safed
